About Francesco Profumo

Francesco Profumo, born in 1953, is a member of the Argotec’s board of directors.

He served as Minister of Education, University, and Research from November 2011 to April 2013, and as President of the National Research Council (CNR) from August 2011 to January 2012.

2003

In 2003, Francesco Profumo became Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at the Polytechnic University of Turin, where he served as Rector from 2005 to 2011. At the Polytechnic University of Turin, he is currently a Full Professor of Electrical Machines and Drives, and he is also an Adjunct Professor at the University of Bologna.

Internationally, Francesco Profumo has worked at universities in various countries: Argentina, China, Hungary, Albania, Romania, Latvia, USA, Japan, and the Czech Republic. Thanks to his extensive academic activities, he has received the title of Honorary Doctorate from 10 universities in different countries.

He is also a member of the Academy of Sciences of Turin and the European Academy.

1978 - 1984

From 1978 to 1984, Francesco Profumo worked as a Design Engineer at the Research and Development Center of Ansaldo in Genoa. He has been a member of the Board of Directors of Telecom, Pirelli, Unicredit Private Bank, Il Sole 24 Ore, and was President of the IREN Group until May 2016.

Currently

Currently, Francesco Profumo is President of the Bruno Kessler Foundation, President of the ESMI ESCP Europe/Turin Campus Foundation, President of CDI Italia, Collège des Ingénieurs Italia, a member of the Board of Directors of the Agnelli Foundation, and a member of the Scientific Council of IIT.

Among his various recognitions, he was awarded the Lion d’Oro in Turin in 2008, the Valdo Fusi Award in 2011, and the Guido Carli Award in 2011. He was also Chairman of the G8 University Summit in Italy in 2009 and President of Columbus (an association of 55 European and Latin American universities).

Francesco Profumo was appointed President of the Compagnia di San Paolo Foundation on May 9, 2016, and reappointed on May 4, 2020. He has also been President of ACRI (Association of Foundations and Savings Banks) since May 2019.
